Video: Kristof Ongenaet

Junior College transfer Kristof Ongenaet visited the Syracuse campus on Thursday of this week to check out the facilities and meet with the coaching staff. Ongenaet is a 6-8 PF and if he were to commit to Syracuse, this class of 2007 would expand to 6 players, marking Boeheim's largest recruiting class since 1996-97.

Ongenaet, a junior college transfer from Cuesta College, visited the Syracuse University campus on Thursday to take a tour of the facilities and talk with the coaching staff. Ongenaet is known for his strong rebounding and tremendous passing touch. As a sophomore at Cuesta College, he averaged 11.7 rebounds per game and was second on the team with 3.8 assists per contest. He shot 56% from the field en route to a 12 ppg scoring average. premium member Alliedp has provided the following video clip of Ongenaet, featuring 4 separate highlights. The clips show Ongenaet as a versatile forward with strong passing touch and well-developed spin moves in the post. The clips are formatted for Windows Media Player.

Alliedp also provides the following observations on Ongenaet:

I've watched this guy play a number of times in the last year. He is a tougher rebounder than most people usually give Europeans credit for and is nimble and polished in the post. He also runs the floor very well and is a credible passer from the high post. The one thing he does not do terribly well is shoot (though he does shoot with touch and decent form). We're going to want to see him in the post at the 4 or 5 and that's it. The good news... Cuesta plays a 2-3 zone so he knows what to expect when he gets here.

Alliedp has also spoken with a source close to Ongenaet's recruitment and reports that it is expected he will announce his committment to Syracuse at a press conference on Monday.
