Syracuse Tops Rhode Island 63-17

R.J. Anderson threw for 306 yards and Walter Reyes ran for 128 yards as the Orangemen finally won a game this season putting Division I-AA Rhode Island away with a 63-17 victory.

Anderson busted out after two disappointing games throwing for two touchdowns. He also completed 24 yards per completion throwing only 18 passes connecting on 13 of them. His longest completion was to Jamel Riddle for an 87-yard strike that gave Syracuse an early 21-0 advantage in the second quarter.

The second quarter featured a high-octane offense for both teams as Rhode Island put all of their 17 points on the board. The teams combined with 45 points as Rhode Island (1-2) closed to 28-17 on Justin Westley's 15-yard TD with 3:15 in the first half.

The Orange (1-2) came right back with a pair of scores to give them a 42-17 lead at halftime. Reyes, who scored three times in the game, ran for a 46-yard TD before Anderson threw to Riddle for a 29-yard reception with just five ticks remaining in the half.

Freshman Damien Rhodes was impressive yet again as the Orange have developed a nice one-two punch at RB. Rhodes ran for 94 yards and scored twice as the Orange marched up and down the field at will collecting 629 yards.

As for Rhode Island, Jayson Davis went 7-of-12 for 145 yards. Jason Ham ran for 103 yards on eight carries.
