Syracuse Lands a QB

The time just felt right for Malvern Prep (Pa.) quarterback Ryan Nassib, so Nassib went ahead and made the call last Wednesday to Syracuse assistant coach Phil Earley. He was committing to Syracuse.

"Coach Earley sounded really excited. He said he wanted to inform the rest of the staff," said Nassib, a 6-foot-2, 209-pound junior who earned third-team Daily News All-City honors after completing 68 of 130 passes for 1,402 yards and 17 touchdowns last year.

Nassib said he was extremely relieved to get the process over with.

"I go to school with kids who have to fill out 10 or 11 applications, and I only had to fill out one," he said. "They said they were only going to offer one quarterback, so I don't know if they're going to take any others."

Nassib first got the feeling Syracuse was the place for him on a visit earlier this summer.

"I just took a visit and felt like it was the right school. I just wanted to do it before anything could happen," he said. "Last time I went down there with my brother and father, so hopefully I can go back soon with my whole family."

Nassib, who also had interest from Temple, Penn State, Wisconsin and Michigan State, said he considered graduating high school early and enrolling at SU this winter, but decided instead to stick with the normal schedule. He is SU's second commit in the Class of 2008.
