Pennsylvania defensive end-tight end Dan Vaughan had a busy time this past week, taking visits to both Stanford and Syracuse. Those two, along with Pittsburgh, form his final three choices. The Orange is recruiting him at linebacker, Pittsburgh at tight end and Stanford at each position. How will that affect his decision, and what are his thoughts on SU? Syracusefan.com has the answers…..

"I prefer linebacker," said Vaughan, a 6-3, 230-pound senior who visited SU during the week last week.

Vaughan said he enjoyed his visit and is still closely considering SU.

"I talked to the staff and they seemed like nice coaches and everything. I went around campus and checked out the schools and looked at the business school," he said. "I liked it."

He also really liked the campus at Stanford and likes Pitt because it's close to home, though he's not making a decision based on locale.

"It'd be nice to stay close to home but going away isn't a big deal," he said.

Asked what Syracuse's staff is telling him, he said. "They've got a lot of players like me. They got a lot of players who know how to win and who want to win." Vaughan was one of the keys to his high school team, Central Catholic winning a state championship.

With a great frame at 6'3 and 230, a 4.55 second 40-yard dash and a track record of producing – he had 99 tackles, 13 sacks and 26 tackles for loss last season -- Vaughan doesn't have an exact timetable for his decision, but said he hopes to get it done in the next few weeks.

So what, exactly, is he looking for?

"Good coaching staff, good players and a good tradition," he said. "It looks like all three of them are on the rise right now."

Vaughan is a multi-talented star who can play defensive end, tight end, linebacker and fullback. But LB is the position of need for SU. So far Syracuse has only brought in Shane Kimmel who looks to project as strictly a linebacker. Vaughan is someone that could help shore up the position, most likely as a run stopping strong side linebacker.
