LaCount Talks Recruitment

The offensive line has seen it's struggles the past few seasons. SU has been looking to upgrade the position and have already gotten committments from Nick Speller (Jan enrollee), Ian Allport, Nick Lepak, and Michael Kay. Could another be on the way?

With his recruitment coming down the home stretch, College of the Canyons (Calif.) offensive lineman Kainoa LaCount took his official visit to Syracuse this past weekend. Sryacusefan.com caught up with the 6-7, 290-pound Hawaii native for a review of his visit and a look ahead to the rest of his recruitment.

"It was nice. They took me to the Villanova basketball game and that was really cool. And they showed me campus – I didn't know about all of the history and everything. I liked it. It was nice," he said.

LaCount said Syracuse's staff told him they are waiting on word from one other recruit, and will call him within the next few days and let him know if a spot is open for him. From the sounds of things, he would certainly consider committing if the offer comes to fruition. He is also considering Kansas State and Hawaii, both of which have offered. He visits Hawaii this weekend.

"I liked it a lot, you know. We'll see what happens. We'll see how this home trip goes, but I liked Syracuse a lot," he said. "They said they're waiting on the other guy, but if the other guy doesn't make it, [an offer will be forthcoming.]"

He also thoroughly enjoyed meeting with the coaching staff and hanging out with the players.

"They were nice guys out there," said the understated Kainoa.

He said the Villanova game and the Carrier Dome were the highlight of the weekend.

"That was one of the most exciting games I've ever seen. That was exciting," he said.

LaCount will graduate in May and he'll have three years to play two wherever he ends up.
