Moore talks about SU's recruitment
Florida safety/OLB Toney Moore has speed to spare and a scholarship offer from Syracuse. Both could play vital roles in the remainder of his recruitment.
Syracuse is the first BCS school to offer Moore, an outside linebacker from Kings Academy in South Florida who runs a 4.5-second 40-yard dash.
"He tells me he likes my speed," More said of SU assistant Jim Salgado, his primary recruiter. "I'm also a hard hitter."
Speaking of Salgado, SU's primary Florida recruiter, he's formed a good relationship with Moore, who also holds and offer from Florida Atlantic and interest from Wisconsin, Clemson, South Carolina and Arkansas State, among others.
"He's told me a good deal about them and told me to go online and check out some stuff … He's a very honest guy. I actually really like him," Moore said. "I know they have a good program and great facilities. I've seen pictures of their facilities."
Moore is a playmaking outside linebacker who posted seven tackles, two for loss, and one catch for 30 yards as a starting tight end in his team's season-opening 49-8 win. As a junior, he helped his team to a 9-3 mark by posting 80 tackles, 13.5 for loss, 15 sacks and five blocked kicks.
"I want to go undefeated [this year]," he said.
Moore, ranked by Scout.com as the No. 37 strongside linebacker in the nation, plans to visit Syracuse sometime during the season but doesn't have a date set yet. He's not sure when he'd like to have decision made by, but said he'd like to wait a bit and see which of the other schools step up with offers.
"A few of them seem close [to offering], they just want to see my film and I haven't sent it out yet," he said. "I'm open to anything. The depth chart at my position and whether they offer my major [are the main criteria," said Moore, who is unsure which major he'll choose.
Moore's recruitment seems likely to last a while as he determines who is serious about recruiting him. Syracuse, of course, already has proven itself to be just that, and should remain very much in the mix throughout.
