Maryland OL Enjoyed Visit Earlier This Month
Gilman School (Md.) lineman Brandon Copeland is familiar with Syracuse, on and off the field. He's also not worried about the current turmoil at SU; he's just waiting for a scholarship offer.
Copeland visit SU earlier this month for the Akron game, met with the coaches and checked out the campus. The 6-foot-2, 267-pound senior told Syracusefan.com he's hoping the Orange will offer soon.
"If they offered, I would probably think about committing," said Copeland, adding that the question marks about the coaching staff don't affect him. "Not really. I like the school a lot anyways. I'd be willing to play for anyone, I just really want to keep playing."
An excellent student, Copeland is also seeing interest from Louisville, Vanderbilt, Penn, Princeton and Wofford. Most schools are recruiting him at defensive tackle, including Syracuse.
"When I was there I talked to coach Trivers and their defensive line coach and I asked them which player on the defensive line I should watch and [emulate] and they told me [Arthur Jones] because he plays 100 miles per hour," he said. "My biggest strength is I'm always going after the tackle. I'm not happy with somebody else getting the tackle. I mean, as long as we get the tackle it's good, but I'm always chasing the ball, and I have been working on getting quicker."
Copeland is unsure where he'll take his next visit to. It will depend at least partially on where his first offer comes from. He's quick to admit he'd love for it to be from SU.
"I really like the way they treat their players, the atmosphere, the walk they do before the game, everything," he said.
