One of the leaders for Florida athlete Jairus Jones is no longer in the picture, and a new suitor has emerged.

Jones, a 6-1 205 pound safety prospect from the Tampa area, said Syracuse coaches stopped by Wharton High School last week to tell him they have an offer ready for him.

Jones said that he was considering a visit to New York State, but nothing is set in stone just yet.

Jones said he plans to visit Michigan State, Iowa, and Oklahoma State, but one-time leader NC State is no longer in the picture.

Jones, a three-star prospect and the No. 84 safety in the nation as ranked by Scout.com, recorded 188 tackles and four interceptions during his senior season.  On offense, he scored 18 touchdowns as a running back and wide receiver.

This highly talented athlete not only excelled at the skill positions on both offense and defense, he also spent some time at OLB in Florida's North-South All Star game in December.

Jones carries a 3.0 core GPA and achieved a 960 SAT.

He will likely wait until just before signing day to decide, but SU is hoping to get an official visit and sway him to become Orange. Syracusefan.com will keep you up to date.
