Defense shuts down Seton Hall

Despite the second consecutive poor outing from Carmelo Anthony, Syracuse won its 11th straight game at the Carrier Dome, topping Seton Hall 83-65, Wednesday night.

Hakim Warrick finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds and Gerry McNamara added 21 as the Orangemen (12-2, 3-1 Big East) rebounded from a tough loss at Pittsburgh. As for Anthony, held to 14 against Pitt, the freshman committed four fouls and played just 26 minutes, scoring a career-low 11 points.

Freshman Billy Edelin made a memorable home debut, scoring 11 points and dishing out six assists in 28 minutes. The guard had to sit out the first 12 games of the season for violating NCAA rules.

Kelly Whitney led the Pirates (7-8, 2-4) with 23 points and 10 boards while Andre Barrett chipped in 17. But The Hall shot poorly from the field, shooting just 35.3 percent from the floor and hit just 5-of-18 from 3-point land.

Seton Hall trailed 40-24 at halftime, but closed to within 42-35 following a three by Barrett with 15:14 left. But the Orangemen tighten their defense, and took a commanding 59-43 lead with 10:23 left when Kueth Duany nailed a jumper.
