Almasian Has SU Connections

Massena, N.Y., native Anto Almasian is the type of athlete that has the potential to play a few positions at the collegiate level, so coaches around the country are going to take notice of his size and speed and plug him in where they see fit. Right now Syracuse likes him at tight end and Almasian has some connections with the Orange.

Anto Almasian, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound tight end/outside linebacker from Massena High School hasn't picked up any offers in recruiting yet, but Syracuse is already talking to him and he has plenty of experience on campus. SyracuseFan.com caught up with him this weekend to talk about his time at the school and see who else is recruiting him.

"Recruiting has been going as expected so far," Almasian stated. "I've been hearing a lot from Syracuse, Northwestern, Boston College, Duke, Vanderbilt and North Carolina State."

"I visited Syracuse during the season to see them play Central Florida and I'm going back this Saturday for junior day," Almasian explained. "My sister goes to Syracuse, so we're down there a lot to begin with and I'm really familiar with the campus."

"You never know how things will turn out in football, so they have a great communications program there and they are a very prestigious school," Almasian explained. "They have a very good, hard-nosed coach in Doug Marrone and the program really seems to be going in the right direction under him. I think they'll make a bowl appearance next year and then three years from now I see them in the Top 25 or even Top 10. I honestly see them getting back to the days when Donovan McNabb and Marvin Harrison were there. He's brought a lot of discipline to the program and he played there, so he understands what it takes to win at Syracuse."

"I believe Syracuse is recruiting me mostly at tight end, but the door is open at outside linebacker as well. I would rather play outside linebacker because I like defense better, but if I'm going to have the great opportunity to play FBS level football I'd play punter to be honest, so whichever position would be fine. When I went to Schuman's Underclassman Combine this year I was ranked the No. 3 tight end at the event, so I think schools really started looking at me at the position because of that."

As a junior, Almasian registered 31 solo tackles, three sacks, forced two fumbles and had one fumble recovery. On offense, he had 13 catches for 183 yards. He was named first-team All-Conference and second-team All-State for Class A.

He boasts a 4.22 short shuttle, 33-inch vertical leap and a 280-pound max bench press. Almasian also carries a 3.4 GPA.
