Burns Snags SU Offer

Rob Burns let SyracuseFan.com know on Wednesday that Syracuse had sent him a written offer and while he doesn't know much about the school or program, he'll be catching up with the coaching staff in the next few days to learn about both.

Rob Burns, a 6-foot-7, 230-pound defensive end from Stone Bridge High School in Ashburn, Va., is a prototype 3-4 defensive end or 4-3 left defensive end and now has an offer in hand from the Syracuse Orange.

"I just picked up two more offers from Syracuse and Boston College," Burns said. "This puts me up to seven written scholarship offers and I'm very excited about the way that recruiting is going for me right now."

"I talked to Coach Mike Siravo and the tight ends coach from Boston College and they are actually looking at me to play on both sides of the ball, but that's not set yet. I have actually taken a couple of visits up there and I like that it's a small campus next to a big city. That's just really appealing to me. Academically they're pretty strong as well in a lot of fields and you also come away from there with a solid degree and a lot of great connections, so it's definitely an option I'll be looking into."

"The Syracuse offer was a surprise, so I haven't had much of a chance to look into them yet or even talk to the coaching staff yet," Burns explained. "I've heard they have a very good communications school, but past that I have to do some homework on their program. I'm going to give the coaches a call this week or this weekend to get in contact with them."

As a junior, Burns had eight sacks on the season from his defensive end position and is a blocking tight end on offense. He was named first-team All-District, All-County, second team All-Region and second-team All-State as well.

Burns carries a 3.95 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society. He took the SAT as a sophomore and got a 1560 out of 2400.
