A Long Way to Go

Steubenville, Ohio product Shaquille Petteway picked up an offer from Syracuse a few weeks back, however it sounds like West Virginia and Michigan State are off to early leads and the Orange are going to need to do some work to get into this recruiting race.

Ohio is a state full of talented football players and Steubenville High School is definitely a pipeline that Syracuse would love to tap into. Right now they have extended an offer to outside linebacker Shaquille Petteway and the 6-foot-1, 200-pound athlete still has a lot to learn about the Orange before he takes a visit to the campus.

"I got my offer from Syracuse about two weeks ago," Petteway explained. "I called to talk to the coaching staff, but I couldn't get in touch with them, so I haven't spoken with them yet."

"I really don't know much about Syracuse to be honest with you," Petteway added. "I've never been up there before and don't know a whole lot about their program. I've watched them on TV before and saw them play Cincinnati this year, but obviously they weren't recruiting me then, so I didn't really think much about it. I'm going to be trying to get in touch with them again soon."

"I've been talking to West Virginia the most so far," Petteway said. "I've known them for a while because a linebacker from our school got recruited by them, so I know the whole staff and feel really comfortable with the staff there. When I was little I always like them and I really feel the same connection with those coaches as I do with my high school coaches, so it's good with them."

"Michigan State is the other school I talk to a lot. They want me to come out for spring ball and have been trying to get me on campus some more, so I'm going to try and get up there soon."

As a junior, Petteway had 98 tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.
