Quarterback's Nightmare

Doug Marrone and the rest of his coaching staff dipped into Florida often in their last recruiting class and came away with a handful of quality players and this year they're hot on the trail of a devastating pass rusher from Belle Glade, Fla., in Robert Way.

Robert Way, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound defensive end from Glades Central High School is already holding a Syracuse offer and while fans may look at his size and question him, one needs to only look at the 4.45 40-yard dash he recently ran at a Nike camp and see that he can be a vicious force off the edge.

"I picked up my Syracuse offer about a week ago, but I haven't talked to the staff since then," Way stated. "I did talk to Coach (Shafer) before as he's been down here for a family even before and he just told me that they were very interested in me and they were going to do whatever it took to get me up to Syracuse. He seems cool. He was real easy to get along with and I think I can learn from him and get on the same page with him."

"I'm going to get in touch with the coaches here this week and talk to them about when I can come up to Syracuse to visit the school," Way explained. "Right now I just know that they have a good football program and have put a good number of players in the NFL like Donovan McNabb, Marvin Harrison and Dwight Freeney and a lot of people say I play like Dwight Freeney. There's not a lot of Syracuse football on TV down here in Florida, so I don't get the chance to see them that much to be honest. At this point I just want to learn more about them and go from there."

We asked Way what he does well as a pass rusher and also, what he thought he could improve on in the future.

"I'm a really good pass rusher. I have a good spin move, a good rip, I have good speed and quickness and level off well. I think I could work on my strength as my max bench is only 280 right now, so I'd like to put some power behind that too."

As a junior, Way registered 139 tackles, 39 tackles for loss and 24 sacks. He was named first-team All-State at defensive end for the AA classification and was named Defensive Player of the Year for Palm Beach County by the Palm Beach Post.
