West Commits and Thoughts

Bethlehem Liberty High School wideout Jarrod West had planned to sign his letter of intent to play for Stanford in February, but some academic details were not in order for him, so he started looking at other schools. On Thursday we got the word that he had committed to Syracuse and he confirmed that Friday morning.

Jarrod West, a 6-foot-2.5, 195-pound wide receiver from Bethlehem Liberty High School in Bethlehem, Pa., committed to Syracuse on Thursday evening and verified that with Scout.com.

"I did commit to Syracuse on Thursday Matt," West said through text message.

Until we talk to West directly, we can talk a little bit about his situation. First of all, his academic situation is very good for any school outside of Stanford who is very, very stringent, so Syracuse fans shouldn't read into that at all.

Also, while his junior film may not be overwhelming, keep in mind that Liberty is a running team with a running quarterback that has produced two straight FBS-level wide receivers in Devin Street and West, so the athleticism is there. My sources amongst the collegiate ranks that have seen West work out at their respective camps have told me West has taken a big step up in his play from not only his junior year, but his senior year as well. In other words, Syracuse is getting a player that we have not seen the talent of yet.
