Don't Forget My Number

Fort Lauderdale, Fla., product Daerius Washington received his Syracuse offer over two weeks ago and has left several messages for the coaching staff since then, but says the coaches won't call him back. He's holding out hope for a return call as he has a lot of interest in the Orange.

Daerius Washington, a 6-foot, 190-pound linebacker/safety from Dillard High School is currently holding six offers and on Sunday we spoke to him about his Syracuse offer and how he's hoping to hear back from Coach Scott Shafer soon.

"I'm being recruited by Coach (Scott) Shafer and have been calling him every week, but I haven't really heard from him at all," Washington said. "I got my offer in the mail two weeks ago last Wednesday, but I still haven't talked to him since I got it. I didn't even know I was being recruited by them before that. I had talked to him once when he came down to my practice and knew the offer was coming, but I haven't talked to them since then."

"I really don't know too much about them, but I've seen some videos of the campus and the weight room and it looked really nice there, so I want to learn more about them which is why I've been calling Coach Shafer a lot," Washington explained. "I'm hoping he calls me back at some point here. They said in their offer that they want me to come up and play weak side linebacker for them. I play a rover back at Dillard which is essentially a Cover 3 safety that plays up in the box, so I'm doing a lot of hitting as it is and then play coverage over the slot receiver."

As a junior, Washington had 95 tackles, 18 tackles for loss and eight sacks, three forced fumbles, three safeties, a punt block and a field goal block on the season.
