Harris Remembers His First

Darien Harris is starting to pick up plenty of offers, but the Hyattsville, Md., product still remembers where his first offer came from every time he picks up a new offer and Syracuse is a school that is definitely in the thick of things for his commitment.

DeMatha Catholic High School strong safety Darien Harris has been very busy as of late as many schools have been showing him new interest or sending him new offers, but he has definitely been keeping in contact with the Orange coaching staff.

"I've had conversations with the whole Syracuse coaching staff lately and I've been keeping in touch with Coach (Dan) Conley the most right now," Harris stated. "I like Coach Conley's enthusiasm and he's definitely one of the younger coaches I know. It wasn't too long ago that he was in the program. He's still young and in shape, so he can still demonstrate a lot of the stuff we're doing and he's representing his alma mater which I can respect a lot."

Harris has seen his recruiting blow up lately, so his offer sheet isn't as small as it was when Syracuse first offered. We asked if being one of the first to offer will stick in his head.

"It definitely means a lot to me that Syracuse offered me first and I keep that in mind as I go through the whole process," Harris added. "They're still very high on my list as I don't have any favorites, but they're still up there for me and have a very good chance."

We asked Harris if he had any plans to visit Syracuse again.

"I'm going to try and get up there again this summer. I've been going to other schools and want to get to the places I haven't been able to get to first, but I'd definitely like to make a second trip up there before my senior season if I can make it happen."

Harris played linebacker as a junior for DeMatha and registered 67 tackles, seven sacks and intercepted a pass which he returned for a touchdown. He will be playing safety as a senior.
