Brown Turns Orange Quickly

SyracuseFan.com spoke with Harmon Brown earlier this week, who sent out a distress signal of sorts through his article to get in touch with the Syracuse staff and within 48 hours of the story going up he gave a verbal commitment to Doug Marrone and Scott Shafer. We spoke to him on Thursday to find out why he committed to quickly.

When we spoke to Harmon Brown early this week he told us that Wake Forest was in the lead and that Syracuse would have a good chance of making up ground with a visit, but it turned out that the 5-foot-8, 170-pound cornerback was actually ready to verbally commit after a solid talk with his recruiting coordinator Scott Shafer.

"It was weird because we had just done that story and then all of the sudden I got in contact with Coach (Scott) Shafer who I had a 45 minute phone conversation with along with my mother and afterwards I just sat down with my her and we decided that was the best choice for me," Brown explained. "I called back the next day and talked Coach Marrone and told him I was committing and he was just very excited about it. He said they were trying to get in contact with me for a while and then explained how significant my commitment was and what my role would be at Syracuse on the football team."

"I committed so quickly because I was very quickly with what the school offered in terms of environment and academics," Brown stated. "I'm not completed shutting down my recruiting down because I got plenty of Facebook messages after I committed, so I'm still going to think about taking official visits, but I am committed to Syracuse."

"I don't know any of their current commitments or players, but I know they have a lot of kids from Florida, so that is exciting."

For now Brown will be listed as a solid verbal, however if he does set up any official visits with other schools he'll be moved to a soft verbal. It does sound like that is a possibility, however Syracuse fans should keep in mind that he did commit without having even visited that school yet.
