SU Likes Amparo at Receiver

Kelvin Amparo is an extremely athletic quarterback from Syracuse, N.Y., that is hearing from a number of schools that want him to run their offense, however the hometown Orange are looking at him as a receiver and we talked to him on Sunday to find out what he thinks about that.

George Fowler High School athlete Kelvin Amparo has a ton of speed for a quarterback, so while he wants to play the position in college, it's pretty obvious why Syracuse is recruiting the 6-foot-2, 180-pounder to play on the outside of their offense.

"Right now I'm hearing most seriously from Syracuse, Connecticut, Wagner and Purdue," Amparo stated. "Rutgers has also shown me some interest and I get a ton of mail from other schools, but those are the ones that I think are definitely the most interested right now. The only one of those not recruiting me as a quarterback is SU who likes me at wide receiver."

"Syracuse came to my school and told my coach that they are really interested in me," Amparo added. "They told me that I need to have a good senior year and that they'll definitely be watching as they're interested in me."

"I like the direction Syracuse is going in with a new head coach and think the program is on the upswing. I like that they're my hometown school, but I have to decide if I want to be a wide receiver. Obviously my first preference is quarterback, so I'm just going to go out and try to prove myself at that position this season. I'd even love if I could change Syracuse's mind too. I just kind of feel like I've had to prove people wrong my whole life because they love my speed and want to put me at wide receiver or running back and I'd love to play quarterback. I definitely see the logic in what Syracuse is looking at and love the attention, but I'm always out to get better and prove myself."

As a junior, Amparo had over 1300 yards passing and 20 touchdowns. He also had 780 rushing yards and added seven scores on the ground.
