Westbrook WR one to watch

Ladarious Spearman out of Beaumont Westbrook is starting to hear from a few college programs.

One destination college recruiters hit hard every year is Beaumont, Texas. More particularly, Westbrook High. Every year the program has an elite player that will move on to the next level. One player to keep an eye on for the 2013 class is receiver Ladarious Spearman.

Spearman hauled in 30 catches for 387 yards and 4 scores in 2011. Colleges like his 6-foot-2, 204-pound frame and feel he could play either receiver or tight end in college.

A few schools have showed interest in Spearman so far including TCU.

"It's going pretty good," Spearman said of his recruitment. "I don't know how much Arkansas will keep looking since their coach just got fired. U of H (Houston) came the other day and they said they want me. TCU just started showing interest and said they were coming down here in the spring.

"UTSA is also showing interest and I'm supposed to be going to a Texas Tech camp soon. A lot of coaches are going to come through in the spring. So, recruiting is going pretty good."

Spearman says it's a mixture of what position the schools are recruiting him as.

"Houston is recruiting me as a receiver and TCU has me as a tight end/receiver. Arkansas was looking at me as a receiver," Spearman said.

With an ambition to become a physical therapist, Spearman says the school's academics are the most important factor when deciding.

"Academics first because I want to be a physical therapist and then location," Spearman said of his factors. "It really doesn't matter if I stay in Texas or not as long as they have my major."

Spearman hasn't mapped out which camps he will attend over the summer but has a couple he likely won't miss.

"I want to attend LSU's and Alabama's camp for sure," Spearman finished.
