New schools entering the picture for Bennett

Manvel, Texas wide receiver Austin Bennett has seen his recruitment pick up in recent weeks.

The last time we checked in on Manvel High School's Austin Bennett, his head was still spinning from the debacle at Arkansas. Just over a month has passed now since the firing of head coach Bobby Petrino and for Austin, the smoke has cleared just a bit. We caught up with the young star to see how things are going.

"It's been going really good" said Bennett. "Last week I got my 12th offer and Auburn was at my school today. They said that they really like me and I'm hoping they offer me, that would be another SEC school to add to the three that have already offered. As of right now, I would say that it's going real good."

When we last spoke with Bennett, TCU and West Virginia were standing out to the talented receiver. However things look to be heating up and a school that many thought were out of it has rejoined the mix.

"It's actually been busier than before because I think the other colleges think they have a chance at me now" he said. "This has opened some more doors for me so we'll see where that takes me."

"Right now Arkansas, West Virginia, TCU and Ole Miss are standing out" said Bennett. "To tell you the truth, the door with Arkansas was never really closed. After they fired their coach, I talked to their new coach John L. Smith on the phone for a couple of days and he seemed real cool so we've built somewhat of a relationship."

With four teams standing out and a new SEC program (Auburn) looking to jump into the mix, things look a little more cluttered at the top of his wish list than before. With the new interest from Auburn and the rebuilding of his relationship with Arkansas, have things changed with Bennett when it comes to a timeframe for making a decision?

"I'll probably make my decision by the end of the summer now" he said. "I just don't know yet."

For now, Bennett is focusing on getting better as a leader and as a player. He shed some light on a few personal and team goals he's set. He also spoke about some of his plans for this summer.

"I want to break the school record for most catches and yards and of course I want to make all district again" said Bennett. "I want to lead the team and I can definitely see us going back to the championship and hopefully winning it this time."

"For the summer it will be 7 on 7, working out and I think I'll take some college trips" he said. "I think I'll go back to TCU, I'll be at Arkansas, I'll be at West Virginia and Ole Miss."

With a busy summer ahead and a handful of schools that he's focusing on, Bennett clearly has a very full plate. With slot receiver being a position of need for TCU, stay logged on to to get the latest on Bennett and his decision.
