Make way for Mookie

Stephenville, Texas 2014 defensive back Mookie Carlisle is already a name to watch from the 2014 class.

The Stephenville Yellowjackets have a rich history of winning football games and producing top notch talent. The more things change the more they stay the same for the former 4A powerhouse program. While the school is now representing the 3A classification, they're still churning out some of the top players in the state.

Mookie Carlisle is a name you'll want to get familiar with as the 6'1" 190-pound, 2014 prospect is starting to make a name in recruiting circles. The talented safety prospect caught up with HornedFrogBlitz.com to give an account of the early recruiting process and what he's looking for this coming season.

"I'm just looking to go out and compete" said Carlisle. "I think we're picked to win the state championship this year so we have to live up to the hype."

Moving down in classification is feeding into the hype as Stephenville is expected to dominate a lot of their competition but Carlisle says it's actually going to be more difficult.

"It's harder because we didn't have spring ball this year" said the talented defender. "It's going to be harder to set up who's on defense and who's on offense because it's new."

From the outside looking in, that may be hard to believe. However, for a program that's used to doing things a certain way, there very well may be something to that notion.

Carlisle went on to discuss the early interest he's receiving and what he thinks about the schools recruiting him.

"I've got some camp invites and questionnaires from OSU (Oklahoma State), Nebraska and Oklahoma" he said. "I would love to hear from Texas because I've always been a Texas fan, even as a little kid growing up."

Carlisle says the main ingredients he's looking for in a college is a good coaching staff and good academics.
