Mayes' younger brother Connor is already one to watch from the 2014 class. At 6-foot-5, 330-pounds, he'll be hard to miss. While Alex is close to double digits in offers, Connor is drawing quite a bit of interest himself. Minnesota was the first to offer the center, next came Colorado and on Wednesday afternoon he added two more offers; Colorado State and Texas State.
The two new offers caught Mayes by surprise.
"I didn't really expect, I never really talked to any of the coaches, it was kind of out of the blue," Mayes said. "I know Texas State is going to the WAC and I really don't know much about Colorado State."
The Mayes' have been to several campuses throughout the process. Since the beginning of the year they've visited Texas Tech, Kansas State, Minnesota, TCU, Rice and Baylor. They plan to visit Colorado in the next few weeks and now that Colorado State has offered, they will likely visit the Fort Collins campus.
"We probably will, my dad has been talking about it a little bit," he said of visiting Colorado State.
The Mayes brothers have plans to attend a few camps this summer.
"We're going to go to Minnesota and Alex is talking about going to some other camps that have offered him," Mayes said.
Mayes plans to be at the June 8th mini-camp at TCU.
