Austin Lake Travis has won 5 consecutive state titles in 4A. The challenge this year will be extending that streak while competing at the 5A level. The good news for Cavalier fans is that they return one of the top duo's in the offensive backfield in the state. caught up with one half of the dynamic duo, 2014 RB, Shaun Nixon to get his thoughts on the recruiting process and to get his reaction to his two TCU camp visits.

"It's going pretty good right now" said Nixon. "I went up to TCU with Baker (Mayfield) and we worked out for the coaches there.

I think I did pretty good and I really liked it up there, the facilities were really nice and I hope they decide to offer me."

Currently holding offers from Clemson, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Baylor and SMU, it's evident early on that Nixon is considered one of the top running backs in Texas for the class of 2014.

When arriving in Ft. Worth, Nixon wasn't sure what to expect but the young playmaker quickly fell in love with TCU. Gilbert already enrolled at TCU, both Nixon and Baker Mayfield say it would make for an easy transition if they were to come to TCU.

"Oh yeah, it would be great because we already know Griffin and it would make it a lot easier to get used to college life" said Nixon. "I don't have a TCU offer yet though so I'm not sure exactly where I fit in with them yet."

Coming in at just under 5'10" and weighing 185, Nixon has the perfect frame to add good weight in the future. Although TCU hasn't offered, the talented runner hopes to impress the staff enough at the upcoming Alamo Heights camp to receive an offer.

Update (7/28/12) – We caught up with Nixon after the Alamo Heights camp and here are a few thoughts from the Lake Travis running back.

"The camp was fun and it changed a little bit from when I went up there (TCU camp in Ft. Worth) but for the most part it was the same" said Nixon. "I really just worked on footwork and reaction drills but it was a pretty good camp."

Nixon was one of three running backs that were held after by the TCU staff, what did they have to say this time?

"I got to interact with all of the coaches, even the head coach, and they were really friendly" said Nixon. "They talked to the three running backs that they pulled aside and told us that they're still evaluating running backs for 2013 and 2014 but they didn't say anything about an offer."

Even though an offer didn't come his way, Nixon wasn't discouraged. He says he still has hopes that the Frogs will send one his way in the near future.

"Nothing has changed and they're still a school I'm looking at" he said. "Hopefully they'll keep looking at me and want to extend that offer out to me."
