Thomas focused on season

Coppell defensive end Solomon Thomas is one of the top players in the country.

When watching the Coppell (TX) Cowboys, it doesn't take long to recognize the stout defense they have on display. It takes even less time to find the leader of that defense; defensive end Solomon Thomas.

The 2014 prospect is rated as the No. 3 defensive end in the country for next year's class and for good reason. He's helped his team to an 11-0 record and one of the big reasons for the perfect record is a very good defense.

That defense was on display Saturday morning at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington as they beat Irving MacArthur 31-7.

"It was great, both teams played really hard and it was a fun win," he said. "It was great being out there."

The defense held MacArthur to just 260 total yards on the day. But Thomas knows they'll have to perform better this week as they face off against one of the top teams in the nation; Desoto.

"We didn't play our best defense, we ran hard and played the ball but we had some mistakes," he said. "We have to practice hard this week and get ready for Desoto.

"I'm so excited; it's the 6th best team in the nation. I'm ready and it's going to be fun and a great matchup. We just have to practice hard and play hard every play and get ready for Dontre Wilson and that offense."

Aside from the good performance on defense, for those in attendance they got to see a special tribute to one of their friends, Jacob Logan, who passed away earlier this year. The entire team has blonde mohawks as a sign that they have dedicated this season to their friend. Thomas says it's much more than just football.

"We wanted to do something for Jacob (Logan) who passed away this year, he always wanted to do something," he said. "We wanted to do mohawks and do something special for him. This season is so much more than just football, its life. This is for Jacob."

As for recruiting, Thomas holds plenty of offers already. Among those are Baylor, Texas, Clemson, Notre Dame, UCLA and West Virginia. Thomas says TCU is a team that has also showed interest. For now though he's focused on his season and not his recruitment.

"They talk to me sometimes on Facebook but that's really it," he said of TCU. "I'm just trying to focus on the season right now," Thomas said.
