Cross named TCU linebacker coach

TCU will announce that DeMontie Cross is their new linebacker coach according to sources.

TCU is expected to officially announce the hiring of new linebackers coach DeMontie Cross sources told on Thursday.

Cross spent the 2012 season on Charlie Weiss' staff at Kansas as the linebackers coach. Cross spent just one season at Kansas and was previously the safeties and special teams coordinator at Wisconsin.

The 38-year old also has experience at the NFL level having coached for the Buffalo Bills. Cross spent five seasons as an assistant coach at Buffalo (2006-2010) as defensive/special teams assistant. In his final year Cross was promoted to coach inside linebackers. The next season he joined Brett Bielema's staff at Wisconsin.

Cross also coached outside linebackers at Iowa State from 2001-2005 before making the jump to the NFL.

This will be the second coaching stop in the Lone Star State for Cross, who spent one year coaching safeties at Sam Houston State. He coached Keith Davis, a former safety for the Dallas Cowboys.

A St. Louis, Missouri native, Cross is a 1997 graduate of Missouri. During his playing career, Cross made 415 tackles from 1994-1996 and was named all-conference in 1995 (Big Eight) and 1996 (Big 12).
