TCU Close To Offering Rockdale OL?

Rockdale, Texas offensive linemen Josh Pelzel currently holds four offers. The 6-foot-6, 305-pounder recently visited TCU for a junior day. Could the Frogs be close to offering?

The TCU Horned Frogs signed four offensive linemen to their 2013 just weeks ago and now they've turned their attention to the 2014 class. This past Sunday, plenty of the state's top 2014 offensive line prospects made their way to Ft. Worth to attend a Frogs' junior day.

Among the impressive list of attendees was Rockdale, Texas offensive tackle Josh Pelzel. The massive 6-foot-6, 305-pounder has received plenty of interest in recent weeks from the Frogs. TCU head coach Gary Patterson even made a visit to his school earlier this month.

For Pelzel, it was his first time to set foot on TCU's campus. He enjoyed visiting with the coaches and even admits that it was the nicest campus he's set foot on so far through the recruiting process.

"I went really well, I was impressed with their facilities and the staff," he said. "I really enjoyed it. It was a beautiful campus; it was probably the nicest campus I've seen so far. The training facility was probably the best I've seen so far, and everything is Hi-Tech. They have a cryo(therapy) chamber that was pretty awesome, but I didn't go in there."

Although he didn't receive an offer on Sunday, Pelzel still feels comfortable knowing that he could be in line for one. It could come as early as the spring with Patterson and offensive line coach Eddie Williamson expected to visit his school again.

"They're in a weird spot right now with their linemen recruiting because they have two linemen up there that are coming off of surgery. If they're going to be able to play they may take it a little slower on who they're trying to recruit," he said. "But, if they can't then they're definitely going to need some tackle/guard hybrids. They're trying to wait to see how they turn out before they offer a bunch of kids. I'm pretty sure they'll offer me. They (Patterson and Williamson) said they would be down in the next few weeks for a spring practice to see how I'm doing."

TCU isn't the first program to show interest in Pelzel. He already holds offers from Texas Tech, Baylor, Washington State and Rice. He's also received strong interest from two more prominent Big 12 schools.

"I know Oklahoma was about to (offer) but they had some coaches fired so that fell through," he said. "I talk to Texas a little bit but I don't know where they're at with me right now; but they were really interested at the beginning of off-season. That's about it right now."

Pelzel has paid attention to the Frogs throughout the years and knows Patterson leads one of the hardest working teams in the nation.

"Their work ethic has always struck me when I watch them on T.V., they don't always have the most talent or best recruiting class but they always manage to be better than anyone expects," Pelzel said. "They just work hard and they don't take days off and that's always impressed me with them."

At the moment Pelzel doesn't have plans to attend another junior day. Of course, he didn't make plans to attend TCU's until just two days prior so if a school is interested in seeing him, he's give them the opportunity.

"If some were to come up and ask me to go to one I'd probably go," he said.
