Allen Grabs TCU Offer

The TCU Horned Frogs have extended an offer to Dakota Allen and in doing so, have moved to the top of the list for the talented LB. Will it be TCU or Kansas State?

The TCU Horned Frogs have the most dominant defense in the Big 12. As good as they look on paper going in to the 2013 season, they still have a glaring need on that side of the ball. With TCU's history of putting LB's in to the NFL, it's somewhat surprising to see the Frogs in their current state of affairs at that position. But worry not Frog fans, help could soon be on the way.

On Tuesday, the Horned Frogs extended an offer to Houston Summer Creek MLB, Dakota Allen. With that offer, the Frogs immediately moved to the top of the hard hitting defender's list. caught up with Allen to see how the offer went down.

"It was the best feeling in the world; words can't describe how good I feel right now" said Allen. "It's breathtaking because I'm originally from Fort Worth so getting this TCU offer is amazing."

At 6'2" and 227 pounds, Allen would immediately fill a huge need for the Frogs at linebacker. Being from Fort Worth, he also understands what it means to get an offer to play LB for the Horned Frogs.

"The fact that they offered me makes me feel like I could follow in Jason Phillips' footsteps and the other great linebackers they've had" he said. "Me and my parents were just talking yesterday about how close TCU is so they could come to my games."

With the Frogs taking such a small class in 2014, scholarship offers are at a premium. This isn't lost on Allen and he described the process in which he discovered TCU had extended one of the coveted offers.

"I was talking to my coach and he told me TCU had offered" said Allen. "I told him I didn't think they had offered yet and he told me to call Coach Cross" said Allen. "I messaged Coach Cross on Facebook and he told me to call him."

"When I called him, I asked him if they had offered me" he said. "Coach Cross told me yes, of course you have an offer."

With the offer now in hand, Allen says it's easy to rank where the Frogs stand with him.

"They're at the very top" said the talented defender. "My top two are TCU and Kansas State and I want to visit both of them before I make my decision."

With his decision set to come down in the middle of the summer, after he visits both schools, TCU appears to be in great shape.

Another bonus would be TCU's proximity to Houston, and Allen makes no bones about the fact that his family's ability to make it to his games plays a huge role in his decision. It won't be the only factor however.

"I won't really know where I want to go for sure until I visit both schools" he said. "I want to make sure to make a good decision because that's where I'm going to be spending the next 4 to 5 years of my life."

While Kansas State is a worthy recruiting foe, everything points to TCU being in the catbird seat. Will the Frogs win out and land a much needed linebacker prospect? Stay logged on to to find out.
