Among the elite players to receive a TCU offer within the last week was Oakley (CA) Freedom running back Joe Mixon. Virtually every program in the country is after the four-star and nation's No. 5 running back prospect according to FOX Sports NEXT.
TCU safeties coach Chad Glasgow visited Mixon's school last week and that's when the star runner received his 40th offer. The offer came as a surprise.
"They came out of nowhere," Mixon said of TCU. "They were saying I was their #1 running back on their list and they want me to be part of the family. They're glad that they have the opportunity to recruit me and everything. That's pretty much it."
Mixon is familiar with the success of TCU running backs, mainly because of the greatest back in TCU history; LaDainian Tomlinson.
"I know pretty much the history of running backs with L.T.," he said. "They utilize their running backs well. That's pretty much what I know about them."
Mixon's most recent visit was to Washington. He plans to announce his decision at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in January. He plans to take all five of his official visits and says there's a possibility of him visiting TCU in the future.
What is he looking for in a program?
"Basically I'm looking for early playing time, academic support and good relationship with the coaches," he said. "I'm hoping they push me to the next level to be where I need to be."
