Atlanta Star Checks out TCU

The TCU Horned Frogs have made headway with their out of state recruiting efforts and Georgia is a state that they hope to cultivate more and more. One player that seems to be really high on TCU is The Westminster Schools' Russell Ude. The 6'3" 240 pound 2015 DE out of Atlanta, GA is looking for the best fit and TCU looks like an intriguing option.

When a prospect from the heart of SEC country comes down to Ft. Worth to see TCU first hand, it's clear that they have a legitimate interest in the school. The Westminster Schools' Russell Ude has a very strong interest in the Frogs and he can't help but gush about them following his visit.

"Coach Burns came to visit me and some other players at my school and I really liked what he had to say and he really said a lot of things that attracted me to TCU" said Ude. "Proximity to home has absolutely no meaning to me at all in my recruitment and to be honest, I'd rather get away from home; TCU would be a great place to end up."

Ude went on to explain further just what it was that has him so passionate about his TCU visit experience.

"They have really good business opportunities being so close to Dallas/Ft. Worth and I want to major in business administration, so I feel like it would be a great place for me to be" he said. "I love the direction of the football program because they're known for being really good at developing football players and I'm interested in getting to the next level."

"I feel like TCU is a school that could really develop me in to the type of player that could go on to the next level."

With the Frogs standing out to Ude, the big DE says he can't understand why everyone isn't flocking to Ft. Worth to see TCU for themselves.

"They're pre-season ranked anywhere from 14-20, the fact that they're a private college with good academics, I mean, I don't see what else you could possibly be looking for."

With an offer on the table from Boston College, Ude says he's hearing from several other solid programs as well and each one has a stellar academic reputation.

"Stanford is pretty much a done deal, I've just got to get them my transcripts" said Ude. "I go to one of the best academic schools in the Southeast and have a 3.6 GPA so everything should be in order and that offer will come in after they get that."

"Vanderbilt is a work in progress and I've camped there and did really well" he said. "I think that offer will be coming soon."

Ude mentioned that he has also had talks with Arkansas and it sounds like an offer will come from the Razorbacks if he makes it out to one of their camps or simply shows up for a visit.

As far as upcoming camps, the rising junior from Atlanta says he's going to be at Georgia this coming Friday and Alabama following that.

While there will undoubtedly be numerous programs coming through with offers, Ude says it's clear that academics are very important to him.

"I think I've made it clear to everyone that academics really are very important to me" he said. "With the schools I'm considering such as Boston College, TCU, Vanderbilt and Stanford, I think that it's obvious that I'm serious about that.

"TCU is right there with all of those that I mentioned and their business program is one of the top ones in the country so that's big for me."

While some may feel that there's plenty of time to reel in Ude, the big defender says that he's actually hoping to decide soon. And, he has a good reason for doing so.

"I would actually like to make a decision as soon as possible" explained Ude. "Definitely before the end of my junior year."

"I want to be an early commitment to a school so that I can start recruiting for the program" he said. "Also, I'm not the kind of person to de-commit from a school either so I have to take all that stuff into consideration."

As far as an offer from TCU is concerned, Ude says that Coach Burns told him that TCU is a little slow with their offers but at the same time, out of the 2015 prospects, he's the only DE they're targeting right now.

"Coach Burns made it very clear that I'm one of their top 2015 targets so I'm pretty excited about that."

"It's always good to feel like you can be a part of something great and looking at the numbers of TCU's defense, you can just tell that it's a great defense" he said. "To be given an opportunity to be a part of that defense would be an honor and a blessing."

Will TCU come through with an offer soon? With a shorter than usual timeframe for a 2015 prospect, the Frogs will have to decide soon. Stay logged on to to follow Ude's recruitment. For Frog fans, this is the type of student athlete you want representing your school.
