TCU 2013 Top Impact Players
With the start of the 2013 season just days away when the Frogs report to camp, HFB.com takes a look at the top 11 impact players that are vital to the Frogs success in their second season in the Big 12.
Starting off our countdown as the #11 impact player is a combination of runningbacks Waymon James and B.J. Catalon. James went down in just the second game of the season at Kansas, but was averaging over 9 yards per carry when his injury took place. Catalon stepped in nicely, leading the team as a true freshman with 582 rushing yeards.
#11 Waymon James/B.J. Catalon
|What makes James and Catalon impact players?|
Waymon James and BJ Catalon figure to be the two running backs most likely to get the bulk of the carries. The HFB staff was divided as to which back to pick, so we have combined both. 12 carries and 99 yards into the Kansas game, James was lost for the season. In his place, Catalon rushed for 582 yards in his freshman season. Both are similar runners who combine good bursts through the line of scrimmage with the ability to get leverage on would-be tacklers. Both under six feet tall, both Catalon and James can be difficult for defenders to bring down. In Big 12 play last year, Catalon averaged 5 yards per carry, and he was able to alleviate the pressure on Trevone Boykin to carry the offense. James and Catalon must do the same this season as TCU will need a solid running game to complement the air attack led by the returning Pachall.
One key to the success of Catalon and James will be the play of the interior of the offensive line, but we expect Catalon and James to be crucial weapons to the TCU offense. Aaron Green could also get carries, but when TCU has the lead or needs to pound our yards, expect Catalon and Green to be the ones getting the carries.
When TCU rushed for at least 130 yards last season, they were 5-2. When they rushed for 200 yards, they were 2-0. A well rounded offense is vital, and the combination of Waymon James and BJ Catalon will ensure that the Frogs have a potent ground attack to accompany their passing game. .
