Dunham Sets Record Straight

TCU commit Alec Dunham sets the record straight after reports surface that he's seeking interest from another Big 12 program.

In the world of recruiting, things can change in the blink of an eye. Commitments happen at an earlier rate than ever and along with some of those early commitments prospects will continue to take visits to schools they're not committed to.

Those trips tend to drive fan bases nut; especially when it involves one of the leaders of a recruiting class.

Sometimes though, it can be a simple miscommunication for a recruit. That appears to be the case with current TCU commit, Alec Dunham, the nation's No. 33 outside linebacker from Coldspring, Texas.

On Tuesday, reports surfaced that Dunham had reached out to Baylor recently with plans of attending the Bears spring game along with showing increased interest in them. While Dunham admits that he has been hearing from the Bears, he wants to make it clear that he's not the one seeking out interest.

"Coach Gush has been hitting me up but I haven't been reaching out to them, I don't know where they got that from," Dunham said of the report. "Baylor has been showing me interest; it wasn't me seeking out things. Naturally when you get interest from another school you feel respected but I don't know where they got that I was reaching out to Baylor."

Dunham also had a message for TCU fans and those who feel they might be losing the highly rated linebacker.

"There's no way, I'm still FunkyTown15," he said. "I'll be in Ft. Worth in June 2015."

A committed prospect since October, Dunham maintains strong communication with the TCU staff on a regular basis. He speaks with Frogs' linebackers coach DeMontie Cross as much as he can and Dunham reached out to him on Tuesday after the report hit Twitter.

"I talk with Coach Cross regularly; I talk to him every chance I get," he said. "I actually talked with Coach Cross today after the Baylor article just to clear some things up."

Dunham last visited TCU on February 8th for a junior day and would like to visit again as soon as he can.

"Coach wants me to get up to some of the practices but I don't know if I'll be able to just because of how far away it is," he said. "I'll be up there as soon as time permits."

Regarded as an active recruiter for the Frogs' impressive 2015 class, which currently ranks No. 17 in the nation in the Scout.com team rankings, Dunham has his eyes on a couple of prospects he hopes his future team lands. He'll be doing his best to help out the recruiting effort.

"There are a lot of big guys out there that I'm hoping to pull in," he said. "James Proche seems like he's real high on the Frogs. As far as defensive guys, I like James Lockhart from Ennis. He seems like he's shown a lot of interest in TCU. I hope he decides to come join the Frogs."
