The Frogs were the first to extend an offer to the speedster last season and since that time Newsome has added 22 additional offers. Among the schools that have offered are Baylor, Clemson, Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Tennessee and UCLA. Indiana offered Newsome on Thursday night.
Needless to say, Newsome is one of the most coveted recruits in the nation.
On Thursday, TCU had the opportunity to give their best recruiting pitch as Newsome made the short drive from Aledo to Ft. Worth to attend a Frogs' practice. Like it has in the past, the visit went extremely well for Newsome.
"I liked it, I really did," Newsome said of his visit. "Honestly, I always get that home feeling when I'm at TCU. I got to see how the coaches interact. I love Coach Cumbie; he's a real good coach and he cares about the players. It's a just a real homey environment; it's always a good time when I go to TCU and see everybody. They show me a lot of love; it's really cool."
Thursday's visit also gave Newsome a chance to see TCU's new offense up close. While the practice was scaled back a bit since the Frogs will have their last practice on Saturday, Newsome was still impressed with what he saw.
"I liked it, they use the slots well," he said. "I think there is a quarterback battle going on, I never really asked but I know they were both in the rotation quite a bit."
Helping TCU's effort to recruit Newsome was 2014 signee and good friend; Foster Sawyer. Newsome said the two spoke the entire time he was at practice and he listened to every bit of advice the former four-star quarterback had to give; particularly the part about how Sawyer was in a similar position during his recruitment but ultimately chose TCU.
"It was a good visit; I've always liked TCU," he said. "Foster was there and we talked the whole practice. He was giving me advice on everything and he told me had a chance to go to Alabama and he had to do what was best for him and he decided on TCU. I get that home feeling when I'm at TCU and that's a good feeling to have. I also got to see my boy Frank Kee, me and Frank grew up together; he looked good."
Newsome visited Texas last weekend while he was in town for the Texas Relays where he ran a 10.78 100-meter. Next up is a possible visit to Baylor this weekend. But first, he'll compete at the Nike Football Training Camp in Desoto on Saturday with hopes of earning an invitation to The Opening.
"I'm going to hit up Baylor maybe this weekend but I'm going to the NFTC this weekend too because I want to go to The Opening," he said. "I may go up there (on Friday)."
