"The latest offer for me was from Missouri," he said. "The week before I got Houston and I already had Wake Forest, Texas Tech, North Texas, Arkansas State, Southern Miss, Texas State, Colorado State and Kansas State."
In addition to the ten offers he holds, strong interest is coming in for the nation's No. 60 offensive tackle prospect.
Another program Akamnonu has kept in close contact with is TCU. The big lineman, who was coached by TCU cornerbacks coach Kenny Perry two years ago at Bowie, has attended a few practices the last two seasons. Although the Frogs haven't mentioned an offer, Akamnonu has been impressed with what he's seen in TCU.
"I've gone to some practices; Coach Perry invited me, Tony and Niko out," he said. "I went up there maybe two weeks ago. I thought the practice was pretty good and I really liked it. I liked the intensity of it. The o-line is real big."
Up next for Akamnonu are more visits planned to campuses that are somewhat close in proximity. For now, he has three trips planned.
"I'm going to try to keep it a little bit local; I'm going up to Denton to see UNT's practice and I'm trying to go see Oklahoma State," he said. "I'm probably going to a Missouri camp summer."
With plenty of options to choose from, Akamnonu isn't tipping his hand just yet on where he's leaning.
"I'm keeping it quiet right now," he said with a smile.
