Big DE on the radar

Dallas Madison defensive end Devontay Wheatley is drawing interest.

Dallas Madison defensive end prospect Devontay Wheatley isn't hard to miss on a football field; literally. At 6-foot-7, 225-pounds, the 2015 prospect is typically one of the biggest players on the field.

But he's not just a big player in stature; he's also been known to make several big plays at Madison which has caught college recruiter's attention.

It didn't take long for Wheatley to catch the attention of TCU coaches at last week's linemen camp. To no surprise, Wheatley passed the eyeball test and made several good plays throughout the day.

"I did good, I thought I was going to do bad but I did pretty good," he said.

On the recruiting front, Wheatley doesn't hold an offer yet but is getting increased interest from a few prominent programs.

"I'm hearing from Oklahoma State, Ohio State and Oklahoma," Wheatley said. "They've talked about offering but they haven't offered yet."

As for TCU, Wheatley likes what he sees in the Horned Frogs.

"I think I would fit in because they help us and motivate us," he said. "That's really all I want."

Wheatley says academics will be his primary focus when looking for the right program.

"I'm looking at academics; I'm still trying to figure out what I want to major in," he said.
