Ward Impressive at TCU camp

Dallas (TX) Skyline 2016 running back Da'Leon Ward holds three offers.

TCU’s last mini-camp under the lights of Amon G. Carter stadium was a big success with 300-plus prospects in attendance. Dallas Skyline was well represented with linebacker Malik Jemison and running back Da'Leon Ward in attendance. Wide receiver Carlos Strickland was also on campus but did not work out.

Ward was regarded as one of the top running backs present; if not the best. TCU had already offered the 2016 four-star running back who is currently rated as the No. 19 player at his position in the nation. Ward’s performance proved why he’s regarded as one of the best in the country as he displayed great quickness and an ability to catch the ball.

The 5-foot-10, 180-pounder has already built a great relationship with TCU running backs coach Curtis Luper. Ward says he got great advice from the coach at the camp.

“Me and Coach Luper are close,” Ward said. “He told me to work on my footwork and how to run better routes.”

Ward received his offer from TCU during the spring evaluation period. For Ward, a lifelong fan of TCU, receiving the Frog offer was an amazing feeling.

“It was amazing; it’s one of my favorite schools,” he said. “I actually check out their website a lot and watch them on T.V. They run the ball too.”

TCU currently has two former Skyline players on its roster; All Big 12 linebacker Paul Dawson and 2014 signee Ty Barrett. Ward says he’s already heard plenty from Barrett about the Frogs’ program.

“He said they come in and hustle, they work out all the time,” he said. “He’s trying to get me to go over there.”

Ward also holds offers from UNLV and Louisville and is getting strong interest from another Big 12 program.

Texas it talking to me,” Ward said. “They wanted me to go down to their camp too but I came to TCU. I had to come down here.”

Despite his early admiration for TCU, Ward is quick to answer on who his favorite program is at the moment.

“My favorite school is Ohio State,” he said. “I check them out a lot too.”
