Profile - Brant Mitchell
The visit to Tech gave Mitchell a chance to see the facilities and he came away impressed. " Tech has done a great job of making sure their facilities are in great shape.”
Brant also used the visit to find out how it would feel to live at Georgia Tech. “I got a chance to stay in a dorm and it was great. The campus was quiet and you couldn't hear the interstate or the hustle and bustle of the city.” Brandt also liked that everything he would need would be close by.
Prior to making his decision, Brant thought about it and everything came up Georgia Tech. “Tech gave me the best combination of academics and football.” Mitchell saw the value of a Tech degree and couldn’t pass up that chance.
Tech is looking at Brant to play the middle or Mike linebacker position. That was a big plus in Mitchell’s decision.
During his recruitment with Georgia Tech, Brant grew close to Coach Sewak. "He'd make sure we stayed in contact once or twice a week, that showed how much he wanted me at Georgia Tech." Brant also formed a good bond with Coach McCollum too. "Coach McCollum played a big role in me committing to Georgia Tech too."
Brant is looking at going through one of Tech’s engineering programs or their highly rated business school. “I mean Coke, AT&T, Wells Fargo, Delta, and many other businesses have connections to Georgia Tech. Having a chance to go to work at one of those places was a big selling point."
Mitchell gave his commitment to Coach Paul Johnson. "He was real excited for me, the football program, and the coaches.”
Nathan Cotrell is Tech’s other commit from the Knoxville area. "We know of each other and have talked some in the past. I know we’ll be getting to know one another very soon though."
Following his commit to Tech, Brant called the other schools recruiting him to let them know that he was done with his recruitment and wasn’t going to change his mind. “To be honest, it is kind of a relief to be done with it.” Brant enjoyed the experience but likes that he now knows where he’s going to school.
