Boykin was nearly unrecognizable to those in attendance due to his amazing weight loss in the off-season. Now a suave 205-pounds, Boykin is ready to compete for the starting quarterback position and prove his doubters wrong.
The redshirt junior will be in a heated battle for the starting position with Texas A&M transfer Matt Joeckel. Boykin says the two have become good friends and he looks forward to the competition with Joeckel.
"Me and Joeckel are real cool, since the first day he stepped on campus I got his number," Boykin said. "There's no animosity, I wish him the best of luck and can't wait for the season to get started.
TCU head coach Gary Patterson said earlier in the day that Boykin looked the best since he's been on campus. For Boykin, he says he simply started taking better care of himself.
"I took care of myself," Boykin said. "I stopped eating fast food and started living and eating right. After I cut out that I lost fifteen pounds."
