Renewed Interest in Newsome
TCU has become one of the biggest stories in all of college football this season as the Frogs have raced out to an 8-1 record and No. 5 ranking. With success on the field, it often translates to recruiting and of late, there has been no shortage of exciting news for Frog fans as their team remains in the hunt for some of the nation’s top prospects. On Tuesday, an old, but familiar name resurfaced on the recruiting trail as HornedFrogBlitz.com learned that the Frogs have re-opened contact with Aledo four-star receiver Ryan Newsome. Newsome seemingly eliminated the Frogs a few months ago as he focused on a few teams. He’s made recent official visits to UCLA, Tennessee, Ole Miss and most recently Oklahoma. The renewed interest from the Frogs caught the nation’s No.27 receiver prospect by surprise. “They were meeting about me yesterday,” Newsome said. “I think it's a blessing that they still hold me in high regard. They are coming to see my playoff game.” The speedster has been impressed with what the Frogs have been able to accomplish this season. “It's great to see the hometown making history,” he said. “They’re clicking on all cylinders.” TCU has mentioned to Newsome about taking an unofficial visit but he’s currently undecided if he will make the trip to Ft. Worth. The Frogs final home game is against Iowa State on December 6th. He may be busy helping Aledo make a run at yet another state championship. Newsome has had a great senior campaign, totaling nearly 2,000 all-purpose yards. “I'm having a really good year as far as all-purpose yards,” he said. “I'm five returns shy of being the all-time high school leader.” Aledo opens up the Class 5A Division I Playoffs this Thursday against Trimble Tech at Chisholm Trail in Saginaw. At 9-1, Newsome feels his team should be able to make another run at the title. “(If) we take care of business we should be there come December,” Newsome said. As for the renewed interest from the Frogs, the biggest question remaining on inquiring minds is whether or not Newsome has a mutual interest. “I do,” Newsome finished.
