Scott on the Rise
With signing day for the 2015 class around the corner, new names are popping up on college radars across the country from the 2016 class. Among the promising risers to keep an eye on is Mansfield (TX) Summit defensive back Vernon Scott. Scott was one of many talented athletes in attendance last weekend for the Next Level Athlete Top 100 Showcase. The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder enjoyed the chance to compare his abilities with some of the top players in the area. “It was fun working with the other good players and knowing that I can compete with them,” he said. “It was a lot of fun.” Scott’s recruitment will likely take off in the spring once college coaches have a chance to get out and see him in person during the spring evaluation period. However, a few teams have already started to show strong interest. “Right now it’s TCU, Missouri, Purdue, Texas and that’s about it right now,” Scott said. TCU was one of the first programs to show interest in Scott. He attended three TCU games during the fall and came away impressed with the Frogs’ 12-1 season. “It’s a great tradition there; it’s just a great atmosphere to be around,” Scott said. “The winning tradition there is awesome. They’re defense is amazing; (Kevin) White and (Chris) Hackett were beasts.” At the moment Scott doesn’t have any junior day visits planned but knows that will change in the coming weeks. In addition to the interest he’s already garnered, he’d like to hear from a few select programs as well. “I would also like to get some interest from A&M, Alabama, Florida State and some of those schools,” he said. “I’ve got to keep working.”
