On Wednesday night, TCU head coach Gary Patterson and co-offensive coordinator Sonny Cumbie made their way day down to San Angelo to visit with one of their more highly sought after memebers of their 2016 class, Brennen Wooten.
The Marble Falls senior finished his season earlier in November. During his senior campaign, the 3-star quarterback prosepect racked up 3,588 passing yards and threw for 35 touchdowns.
Wooten said his in-home visit with Patterson and Cumbie, "Went awesome!"
"My family and I got to spend a lot of time with the coaches and just had a great time together as usual," he said.
Wooten plans on enrolling at TCU in the spring. He said the coaches talked to him about what he can expect during his first semester.
"I'm enrolling early and [Patterson and Cumbie gave] some insight on what my spring will look like as far as workouts," Wooten said. "They are just excited. Ready for me to start competing next month!"
Though the Frogs will be getting a highly touted quarterback in the spring, reports have been surfacing about the team's offensive coordinators considering positions at other programs, including Cumbie. There have been reports stating that Texas is targeting Cumbie for its open offensive coordinator position. TCU's other co-offesnive coordinator, Douch Meacham, was said to be the new head coach of North Texas earlier in the week, but reports are now saying he withdrew his name from consideration. Despite all the talk about Cumbie and Meacham possibly leaving, Wooten seems optimistic that both coordinators will remain in their current positions at TCU.
"As far as anyone is concerned at this time both Meachum and Cumbie are staying," Wooten said. "They are both good coaches and this situation will come up every year. Just nature of the beast."
With 15 verbal commits in TCU's 2016 recruiting class, the Frogs' coaching staff is looking to add a few more prospects before national signing day. Wooten said Patterson and Cumbie want the following guys to join him in Fort Worth:
Stephen Sullivan (WR)
Tyrie Cleveland (WR)
Tramonda Moore (OT)
Camron Williams (ATH)
David Reese (ILB)
When asked if Wooten, himself, is looking forward to next semester he just said, "Can't wait!"
