FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU head coach Jamie Dixon announced the signing of combo guard Shawn Olden Thursday.
A native of Tulsa, Okla., Olden played at New Mexico Junior College last season where he averaged 16.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game and helped the Thunderbirds to a 19-11 record. Olden is ranked No. 12 in JucoRecruiting.com’s Top 100.
“Shawn is a combo guard with a lot of experience having played Division I basketball,” said Dixon. “He’s an elite level 3-point shooter and has the ability to create off the bounce. He has also shown the ability to be a lock-down perimeter defender.”
Prior to NMJC, Olden played at Pepperdine and was on the West Coast Conference All-Freshman team during the 2014-15 season. He finished third on the team and second among WCC freshmen with 9.2 points per game and led the team with 35 3-pointers. As a sophomore, Olden averaged 7.8 points through nine games before an injury forced him to miss the rest of the season.
Olden, who will be a junior next season, joins fall signees Lat Mayen, R.J. Nembhard and Kevin Samuel as newcomers. They make up a recruiting class that ranks No. 26 in the nation according to Scout.com.
