Wooldridge Has Always Been A Horned Frog

The recruiting process was an easy one for offensive tackle John Wooldridge. Today BigPurpleNation.com talks with 2009 recruit about why he chose TCU. If you don't have a premium membership you are missing out.

After receiving interest from schools like Kansas, Texas A&M, Northwestern, and Stanford, Episcopal offense tackle John Wooldridge only had one school that made sense. "Both of my parents went to school there so I have been going to TCU since I was a little kid," stated Wooldridge to BigPurpleNation.com. "Both of my sisters go there now and I love the town of Fort Worth. Growing up in a Horned Frog family really helped my decision."

The recruiting process was an easy one for Wooldridge. "I went to the TCU junior day and they gave me the scholarship right there on the spot and I took it."

At 6'5, 290 pounds, Wooldridge is one of the largest 2009 recruits. A three star prospect by Scout.com, the senior made Dave Campbell's Second All-State team last year. Currently the 2009 recruit is benching 360 pounds and squatting 500.

Growing up in a TCU family, the offensive tackle was very familiar with Coach Patterson. The thought of playing for him was another reason why Wooldridge chose TCU. "I'm pretty excited about getting the opportunity to play for Coach Patterson. I have watched him throughout the years and now I get the opportunity to be one of his players so it's pretty exciting," stated Wooldridge.

In addition, the offensive tackle already knows a lot about his position's coach (Coach Williamson) at TCU. "I have heard some great things about him. I have talked with some of the TCU offensive line and they speak really highly of him. I went to a camp last year and kind of got a feel of how he teaches and how he works."

After a disappointing 5-5 season last year, Episocopal will look to build in 2008. "Last year we were looking like a great team but we had a lot of injuries and ended up 5-5," said Wooldridge. "This year we are working out hard and we have the whole offensive line back which will really help. Our quarterback also comes back so we are looking pretty good."

On an individual level the senior is focusing a lot of his attention on one thing. "The biggest thing that I'm working on is my speed and quickness. I'm alright but I'm just trying to get my speed a little bit better." Currently Wooldridge runs a 5.4 forty.

Along with football, the offensive tackle is a very impressive wrestler, earning All-State honors last year. "My first year that I wrestled I was a sophomore and it was kind of a learning process. I wasn't the greatest at it…. I finally learned it though and was All-State last year." The TCU coaching staff got their first look of Wooldridge on the mats. "The TCU coaching staff came to a wrestling practice and watched me at a wrestling match," said the heavyweight. "They really liked my balance and agility."
