At the end of June Christian added Dawson Community College forward Gregory Richardson. The 6-8 forward averaged 7.8 points and 8.0 rebounds per game last season, leading the Buccaneers to a 19-9 overall record.
"Greg Richardson is a guy that is 6'8 and athletic. I think he is one of those guys that are really going to get better. He wanted to be at TCU and I think in our system he will be a guy that will do really well," stated Christian to BigPurpleNation.com
While the forward should provide the Horned Frogs with a strong presence inside, Coach Don Mast of Dawson Community College says TCU fans should be more excited about Greg's upside. "Greg was a raw player when we got him, who steadily improved over the course of two years. He worked hard at practice and was a very good rebounder for us. I believe he will continue to improve on his game."
In two seasons in a Buccaneers uniform, Richardson recorded 13 double-doubles as DCC's inside presence. His best game came against Montana State-Bottineau where he recorded a 22-point and 15-rebound performance.
During his sophomore campaign the newest Horned Frog ranked 13th in the Mon-Dak Athletic Conference in blocked shots and was part of a team that averaged 84.5 points per contest.
While the forward is very gifted on the court, he also is very talented in the classroom. He was selected as the recipient of the Mon-Dak Basketball Athletic All-Academic Award following the 2007-08 campaign.
The 2008 recruit becomes the third junior college player (Edvinas Ruzgas and Zvonko Buljan) to be added to the team and fifth signee overall for Coach Christian. While many fans would expect the recruiting process to be over after five signees in one year, Christian and his staff are hard at work trying to find one more player for 2008. "So I feel really excited about the five new guys that we have brought in and the two that originally signed during the early signing period. It's a good nucleus for our team and we are going to try to keep adding to it," stated the Coach. "We are just trying to find the best guys to help us win. Not any particular position but just somebody who will fit our system and with the guys we have. If we don't find anybody we will just roll over it and hold onto it until next year."
