"It was great to see everyone get in the match and contribute," said head coach Prentice Lewis. "I thought our team made some great strides in the match. We had to weather a lot of ups and downs and I thought we responded well."
The Frogs had to dig themselves out of an early hole in the first match as the Lady Techsters jumped out to a 5-0 advantage. TCU rallied behind the serving of Megan Munce to knot the game at seven on a Kourtney Edwards blast down the middle.
Tied at 12, the Frogs took control of the set and never looked back. Otto gave the Frogs a lead they would never relinquish with a loud kill on the outside and Joeckel's strong serve extended the Frogs lead out to 18-13. Devon Kirk and Megan Munce pushed the Frogs to game point and Otto sealed the early lead with her eighth kill of the set.
Another battle ensued in game two as the set saw five ties and two lead changes. This time it was the Frogs who jumped out to the early lead only to see La. Tech battle back to take an 11-10 lead. Otto tied the game and Munce put the Frogs in front with her second kill of the game.
Always tough with Nirelle Hampton behind the service line, the Frogs continued to build on their lead, extending it to 20-15 on another blast from Edwards down the middle. However, errors by the Frogs quickly let the Lady Techsters back in the match as they got the set tied at 21 on a kill from Kara Jones.
An unforced error by Louisiana Tech put the Frogs right back in front and they sailed from there with Katelyn Blackwood behind the line. Two straight attack errors from La. Tech and a kill from Devon Kirk put the Frogs in control of the match with a 2-0 lead.
Out of the intermission, the Horned Frogs jumped all over Louisiana Tech and cruised to the 25-15 match-clinching victory. Again, Joeckel's serve got the Frogs a big lead as the Frogs blocking game came alive. Kirk teamed up with Otto and Edwards for back-to-back blocks that gave the Frogs an 8-4 lead.
Hannah Fort's first collegiate kill helped the Frogs build a 13-8 lead and Blackwood served the Frogs to 19-10. Jess Menden came in late in the third and guided the Frogs offense as they closed out the match on a 5-2 run. She set Otto for three kills and also assisted on Kylie Pont's lone kill of the match.
Hampton finished the match with six kills, 35 assists and seven digs. Munce pitched in with five kills and nine digs. Kirk finished with nine kills on 13 swings. Edwards paced the blocking attack with three to go along with seven kills.
The Frogs (1-0) return to the court Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. against UMKC (0-1). They will conclude play in the Molten/Nike Invitational at 7 p.m. versus Belmont (1-0).
