BPN: Mountain West Conference Predictions

Does Utah now have added pressure after a big win? Can BYU go into a PAC-10 team's house and come away with a win? BigPurpleNation.com will take a weekly look at games played by Mountain West Conference Teams. Go inside to get our thoughts on this week's match-ups.

Week 1 Predictions: 4-3
Overall Record: 4-3

(1-0) BYU at (0-1) Washington

BYU is the better team, but the Huskies players know that Ty Willingham needs a win bad. Beating a Pac-10 team on the road is never an easy thing, but BYU has the team to do it. Harvey Unga will go for a 100 yards rushing against Washington's suspect d-line and BYU will win.

My prediction BYU 28-24 over Washington

(1-0) Stephen F. Austin at (1-0) TCU

TCU made a statement last week showing the Mountain West Conference they probably have the best defense. The Horned Frog defensive front should be dominant. Enough said, no need to waste more hard drive space. The Lumberjacks are in this for a payday and won't score until TCU's third-team is in.

My prediction TCU 48-17 over Stephen F. Austin

(1-0) Sacramento State at (0-1) Colorado State

Colorado St. didn't play good enough to beat Colorado last week, but definitely held it's own on the road. Coach Fairchild will get his first victory at CSU on Saturday.

My prediction Colorado State 38-14 over Sacramento State

(0-1) San Diego State at (0-0) Notre Dame

If San Diego State can't handle Cal State Poly how can they handle the Fighting Irish? If Chuck Long wasn't hearing whispers before last week, he is now. Notre Dame will start quick and score often. After a rough season last year, Jimmy Clausen will want to show Irish Nation what he's got.

My prediction Notre Dame 41-17 over San Diego State

(1-0) Air Force at (1-0) Wyoming

The Air Force defense is not great, but it is better then Ohio's who didn't allow Wyoming to get much going last week. The Cowboy defensive line should grow into one of the best in the Mountain West, but not this week. Air Force's running attack will wear down the Wyoming d-line.

My prediction Air Force 24-23 over Wyoming

(0-1) Texas A&M at (0-1) New Mexico

All of a sudden, what appeared to be a nice match up between two decent mid-level teams in their respective conferences becomes a battle of desperation. New Mexico lost to a very talented TCU team and Texas A&M lost a shocker to Arkansas State. New Mexico will have quarterback Donovan Porterie back, but it will not be enough as Mike Sherman gets his first win a week late.

My prediction Texas A&M 23-18 over New Mexico

(1-0) UNLV at (1-0) Utah

After beating Michigan in the Big House yesterday, Utah now has a red target on their back. UNLV started off the year with a 27-17 win over Utah State, but the Mike Sanford era might be able to turn a corner if his team can go into Salt Lake City and come away with a win in the Mountain West opener. UNLV will be better then most think this year, but Utah's offensive line will be to good in this one.

My prediction Utah 28-17 over UNLV
