BPN: MWC Predictions Week #4

Utah and Air Force square off in a battle that will greatly affect the Mountain West Conference title race, UNLV will upset Iowa State, and does Wyoming have a shot? BigPurpleNation.com will take a weekly look at games played by Mountain West Conference Teams. Go inside to get our thoughts on this week's match-ups.

Last Week's Record: 5-3
Overall Record:16-6

(3-0) Utah at (3-0) Air Force

A win gets you right into the thick of things for the race to the MWC title. A loss by either team will set them back, but not out of the picture. Air Force has turned some heads early, but can they really be a contender this year? I think so! Utah is good, but every team loses one they shouldn't'.

My prediction Air Force 27-23 over Utah

(1-2) Houston at (1-1) Colorado St.

If Colorado St. didn't have a bye last week, this game would not be as close as it will be. Houston has had the run around with having to play at SMU last week (Hurricane Ike). Houston scores in bunches and Colorado St. doesn't stop anyone.

My prediction Houston 30-17 over Colorado St.

(3-0) TCU at (1-2) SMU

SMU might get a score early with the home crowd behind them, but the Mustangs will find it much harder to score on TCU's first-team defense compared to any other team they have faced. The Frogs offense will have no problems moving ball with who ever is in the backfield at running back. Coach Patterson is known for saying that you are only as good as your second and third team guys. This will be another game those guys get work.

My prediction TCU 45-10 over SMU

UPSET SPECIAL: (2-1) Iowa State at (2-1) UNLV

This might be the closest game on the MWC docket this week. I was in Ames two years ago when Iowa State needed double overtime to get past the Rebels. All teams that are rebuilding usually lose a game or two that they shouldn't in the coach's first couple of years. Look for that from the Cyclones. ISU will be looking ahead to Kansas next week when they should be worried about this week. UNLV gets another big win for the MWC.

My prediction UNLV 28-27 over Iowa State

(2-1) Wyoming at (3-0) BYU

Was it just me or was BYU out on a mission last week? BYU might come out a little flat, but Wyoming is not good enough to do anything about it. BYU will improve to 4-0 and in the process move up a spot or two in the rankings.

My prediction BYU 41-10 over Wyoming

(1-2) New Mexico at (2-0) Tulsa

The Lobos didn't get off to a great start, but after beating Arizona last week beating the Wildcats for a second straight year could be the kind of game that turns a season around. Unfortunately Tulsa is to good of a team to let that happen. Tulsa is just like TCU. Wondering why they aren't getting any BCS buster talk?

My prediction Tulsa 28-21 over New Mexico
