Former TCU Horned Frog safety Quincy Butler is back on a 53-man NFL roster. With big time injury woes to the Dallas Cowboys secondary, Butler has been signed to provide depth at the safety position.

Butler was with the Cowboys the last two seasons, but was cut by the club during this year's training camp. Much of the preseason he was hampered by a hamstring injury.

Butler had been on the New Orleans Saints roster the last three weeks, so under league rules the Cowboys will have to keep him on the 53-man NFL active roster. After three weeks, the Cowboys can release him and try to resign him to their practice squad.

After a All-Mountain West Conference senior season in 2005, Butler signed a practice squad contract with the Cowboys in 2006. He has appeared in one NFL game in his career.

Butler is expected to regain his old Cowboys number 36.
