"We have two freshmen on special teams who have done a great job for us kicking and punting," said Coach Patterson on Tuesday. "But Utah has a senior in (punter and place-kicker) Louie Sakoda. He's been in pressure situations and has done it all for them."
After a great 2007 season where he was named an All-American, Sakoda is having a great year again. Handling field goals and punts, Sakoda is second in the nation in kick-scoring with 87 points. He is among the nation's best in field goal percentage at 89.5% and is the 2008 Midseason All-America place-kicker by CBSSports.com.
"He has proven to be one of the best in the nation. He is on some All-American teams and he done a lot of things under pressure. He is proven and we are going to have to match him if we want to win," said Coach Patterson on his radio show this week.
Just a freshman, Evans has put up senior like numbers. He is the only freshman among the 20 semifinalists for the 2008 Lou Groza Award. Evans is 13/15 on the season in field goals and his 86.7% ranks 7th in the nation. His first collegiate field-goal attempt, Evans hit from 50-yards which is the sixth-longest kick by a freshman this season.
Tonight's match-up will be a fun one to watch. Can Sakoda beat TCU one more time? Can Evans kick the Frogs to victory in a high profile game? Both of them are among the nation's best and both will be relied on heavily tonight.
