With the victory, the Horned Frogs improved to 6-3 on the season and are now riding a five-game winning streak for the first time since the 2001-02 campaign. The Frogs also posted its first-ever victory over the Islanders, which covered three games.
TCU had three players score in double-digits as Kevin Langford (Fort Worth, Texas | University of California) led all scorers in the contest with 20 points and seven rebounds. Langford connected on 6-of-8 shooting from the field and 8-of-10 from the free throw line in 27 minutes of action.
The Frogs got on the board first as Keion Mitchem (Rochester, N.Y. | Rochester East H.S.) connected on a three-pointer right out of the gates to give TCU an early 3-0 advantage. Mitchem finished the game with 10 points after connecting on 4-of-6 shooting, including 2-of-3 from behind the three-point arc, in 22 minutes of action.
The Islanders took control of the scoreboard following a pair of lay-ins and a 20-foot jumper from Kevin Palmer to put the visiting squad up by a 6-3 count with 16:03 mark. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi continued its strong offensive efforts as the Islanders went on a total of a 20-5 run over the next eight minutes to take a 20-8 advantage with 7:40 remaining in the first half.
The Islanders continued to its advantage on the scoreboard as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi went into the locker room with a 30-22 lead at intermission.
The Frogs chipped away at the Islander lead during the opening minutes of the second half and got to within one possession at 37-34 following a pair of free throws from Langford at the 14:53 mark. TCU earned its first lead of the game since the 17:47 mark in the first half after Langford drained a second set of free throws to put the Frogs on top by a 40-39 count with 9:45 left on the clock.
A crucial three-pointer from Edvinas Ruzgas (Vilnius, Lithuania | Weatherford College) put the Frogs ahead by a 45-41 count followed by a Langford jumper and three-pointer from Mitchem gave TCU a 50-41 lead. The Frogs outscored the Islanders by a 42-21 count from the 7:50 mark in the first half to the 7:52 mark in the second half.
The Frogs claimed their biggest lead of the game after Ronnie Moss (Fort Worth, Texas | Christian Life Academy) connected on a lay-in and free throw with 1:04 remaining in the game to give TCU a 15-point advantage at 66-51.
Moss finished the game with 11 points including the final six TCU points after connecting on 4-of-6 shooting in 20 minutes of action.
Ruzgas finished with nine points, including a trio of three-pointers while Jason Ebie (Houston, Texas | Alief Elsik H.S.) dished out six assists and Zvonko Buljan (Split, Croatia | Vincennes University) added seven points and nine rebounds.
The Frogs connected on 50.0 percent (21-of-42) from the field against the Islanders, including 60.9 percent (14-of-23) in the second half of action. From behind the arc, the Frogs connected on 5-of-6 shooting en route to finishing an even 50.0 percent (7-of-14) for the game.
The Frogs will be back in action on Monday (Dec. 8) when they host Wichita State at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m. Central Time.
