BigPurpleNation.com has learned that TCU's Don Sommer has been named college football's 2008 National Strength & Conditioning Coach of the Year.

"He's been awesome. Strength coaches don't get a lot of credit. For him to get the award for strength coach of the year just sums up what type of coach he is and what kind of person he is," said Coach Patterson on Saturday.

Sommer nominated for the award by his peers, is in his 8th season at TCU. The finalists for the award are voted on by a panel of former coaches and players. Sommer will be honored by in January at the Football Coaches Association Convention.

"In addition to my two kids at home, I have another 120 here to watch over," Sommer said. "It makes me proud to see them grow into men. These guys come to TCU as boys, but they leave as men.

"Football is a violent sport. Every play there is going to be a hammer and a nail. We teach our kids to be the hammer."

Let just hope the Frogs can be the hammer against Boise State on December 23rd. Congratulations to Coach Sommer from BigPurpleNation.com!
